Requests for checks due by Dec. 28 for payment in 2009
The treasurer’s office will be doing a last check run for 2009 on Dec. 30. All requests are due to the treasurer’s office Monday, Dec. 28. Requests received after Dec. 28 will not be paid until after Jan. 15.
IRS Announces 2010 Standard Mileage Rates
The Internal Revenue Service has issued the 2010 optional standard mileage rates used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business, charitable, medical or moving purposes. Beginning Jan. 1, the standard mileage rate for business use of a car is 50 cents per mile or 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations.
Register for bishop’s tour of Germany
Bishop Matthews will lead a tripp to Oberammergau and the Passion Play in July. For information about the trip and to register, visit the Educational Opportunities

Applications being accepted for MTSO scholarships
The Methodist Theological Seminary of Ohio Harding Scholarship awards full tuition plus a $10,000 annual stipend for three years to one outstanding graduate. The deadline for applications is Feb. 1. For more information, visit the school’s

New England Conference District workshops come to Vermont
The New England Conference staff has been conducting a variety of practical workshops to give local churches information and resources to help enhance and empower mission work and experiences. This winter, the workshops will come to Vermont. All clergy and local church members are invited to attend.
Workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 6:30 to 9:15 p.m. in Rutland, Vt.; Thursday, Jan. 28, 1:30 to 4:15 p.m., South Burlington, Vt., and Thursday, Jan. 28, 6:30 to 9:15 p.m. in Barre, Vt. There are five workshops, each exploring a different aspect of Mission in a New Day. Each workshop will be offered twice during the session, so each participant can choose two of the offerings:
- Doing What is Needed. Curtis Brown, Director of Congregational Development.
- Connecting with Mission Resources. Alexx Wood, Director of Communications.
- Being Mission: Deepening Discipleship Through Mission Experiences. Wanda Stahl, Director of Spiritual Formation.
- As a Fire is Meant for Burning. James McPhee, Director of Connectional Ministries
- Youth and Young Adults in Mission. Lorraine Macpherson, Director, United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth - Northeast
