Albany United Methodist Society

The Albany United Methodist Society (AUMS) Core Urban Ministry Team is working with AUMS Executive Director Peter Fish on projects to empower residents of the West Hill neighborhood in partnership with the City of Albany, N.Y., and the congregations of Troy Annual Conference.

Among the ministries and missions AUMS offers are:

Food Pantry: Troy Annual Conference volunteers and donations are the backbone of the societys ability to serve 350 familiesapproximately 950 peoplea month. Our Thanksgiving basket and Christmas toy distribution served records number of people in 2005 as AUMS increased its service to additional neighborhoods.

AUMS Summer Camp is a program for youth ages 6 through 13 in the West Hill area. The program begins July 5 and Director Annie Dyess leads a team of teen counselors in enrichment activities such as athletics, theater, life skills instruction, informative presentations and field trips.

AUMS After School Program, a community-based program, in the West Hill neighborhood focuses on literacy tutoring.

FOCUS Churches/Capital Area Council of Churches has allowed AUMS to expand its reach into the community. The consortium offers funding for community projects that identify and develop a currently unaddressed service in Albany that the partnership can sustain.
